Introducing Mothers at Booth

February 17, 2009

We are very pleased to finally launch Mothers at Booth, a student-led group affiliated with the full-time MBA program at Chicago Booth. This project is almost two years in the making and we’re thrilled to be able to put a face on motherhood both during and after the Booth MBA.

Who do we serve?

MaB programming is targeted towards the full-time, female student population but membership is open to women from the part-time, executive and PhD programs as well. Additionally, we welcome student fathers and fathers-to-be? to participate in the conversation and share their thoughts and insights.

Whether You are a Mom Now, Later or Never

MaB provides support for women? who already have children but much of our programming and resources? are targeted at women who are still deciding when and if they will have children. We know this is not an easy decision and believe that it is made best when women have the right information. On the one hand, working motherhood is absolutely doable. On the other hand, pregnancy, childbirth and the post partum period has unique emotional and physcial ramifications for female parents which cannot be taken lightly. We hope that women can make more satisfying life decisions if they have the support and insights of the Booth community to help guide them.

What do we plan to do?

  • On campus events and networking opportunities for students and alumnae
  • Mentorship program to help women connect with more experienced women in their field of interest
  • Central point of contact to help prospective and current students connect with the right people to answer questions around admissions, academic planning and career services
  • Stories and unique aspects of the Booth community through our blog and website
  • Visibility, information and encouragement to all women (at Booth and beyond)? unwilling to compromise personal or professional ambitions

How we can help you?

Please peruse our website and feel free to reach out to us for further information and help. Current students can sign up for our membership list and female students and alumnae are welcome to join our private Google Group.

How you can help us

  • Contribute to our website and blog
  • Volunteer for our mentorship program or to participate in an on campus event
  • Leadership – we are in need of first-year Booth students to help lead the group this spring and next year.
  • Spread the word!

Kickoff Meeting Tuesday, March 3rd

Lastly, for current students, we will be holding a kickoff meeting on Tuesday, March 3rd over lunch. We have a great panel of distinguished alumnae from a broad range of industries lined up. The conversation is meant to be frank and should be a valuable experience for not only women with children or planning to have children, but women who are completely undecided about whether they will ever have children. Come let us know what’s on your mind and learn more about the group! (more details will be distributed by email to Booth students)

This is great news! There’s a lot that we have in common as Booth women, so it’s wonderful to have an in-person and online chance to compare notes.
